Many generations of mothers have cajoled their children with “Try it. You’ll like it!” (It seems they all went to the same “Mommy” school.)
A famous layman, of the last century, Chesterton, used it in a different sense. ”The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting. It has been found difficult and left untried.”
I wonder if maybe we should use the “try it, you’ll like it” approach to synodality.
Those familiar only with the younger lives of St. Vincent and St. Louise would have been surprised by their lifelong journey.
Vincent and Louise would not have been considered a good bet as a relationship that would work out.

In 2019, Pope Francis set in motion a three-year conversation among 1.3 billion Catholics.
Up until now, I never thought about “how” Jesus shared his news with the two disciples on the road to Emmaus.
I never paid attention to the “how” he shared the good news in each of the appearances after his resurrection.

Emmaus describes Jesus encountering confused disciples. He first listens to their pain, then makes connections they had missed. They recognize him when they break bread together.
This is how Pope Francis looks to lead the Church into the third millennium.
