I don’t normally read InterVarsity publications. One popped up in a google search for material related to the words of a theologian ” Pray with the bible in one hand and the newspaper in the other.”
In this Vincentian Mindwalk I share two aspects on what that might mean.
As we celebrate ”Word of God Sunday”, I reflected on the change in the way I read the Bible. I sometimes wish I could be teleported back to the days of the early church. The TV series “The Chosen” is a possibleaid.
Where two or three are gathered… A Baptist pastor’s wife taught me about praying with a person. I invite you to an examination of the power of praying with someone.
Real love is dangerous. Real prayer is transformative for the pray-er. Only then can the pray-er bring transformation. Prayer is movement. Let this Lent be a time when prayer transforms you. Set your prayer in motion!
The kingdom is waking up to being sons and daughters of God, brothers and sisters to one another. In a polarized world what could be a more radical change in consciousness?
Throughout a month-long celebration, the world’s 2.2 billion Christians come together to care for our common home.
Something wonderful is happening in our midst… people from all walks of life and unique talents are bonding to use their special talents in the service of the poor.
I would like to suggest that we take seriously the lessons Vincent and Louise can teach us about collaboration rather than competition.
Our Superior General reminds us of what Vincent prayed about – topics related to our mission to the poor – what methods he used.
This is not an appeal for funds – just prayer! Seriously!
Remember how often Jesus withdrew to remember his relationship with his origins and reflect on his mission. This process of recharging is what gave Vincent, Louise and those who follow them the strength to be effective servants. It was because they were hearers of the word in their hearts that they were such effective doers.
