Today I wonder whether our concept of mercy is too small or is a one-way street. I wonder how many sermons went beyond assuring us of the gift of God’s mercy. Certainly, an important theme.
Yet how many sermons stressed the need for us to be merciful?

In 1953 at the age of 17, Pope Francis had a life-changing experience in confession.

What has he said about confession as Pope some 60 plus years later?

“There is no Christianity without mercy.  If all our Christianity does not lead us to mercy, we are on the wrong path.” (Pope Francis) Just as we learn to walk, we must learn to “mercy” from our experience of God mercying us.
